MANGALORE: Entertainment and shopping will never be the same again in Mangalore. Come March 2005, Adlabs Multiplex is all set to entertain Mangaloreans.
Bolstered by the success of multiplexes in Mumbai, Adlabs is now setting up a multiplex movie theatre with commercial-cum-shopping mall and a luxury hotel at Bejai here.
The project, to come up on a 1.5-acre land, will consist of three screens covering 35,000 square feet in area for simultaneous screening of movies besides a large space for office.
There will also be spacious exhibition hall, kids entertainment zone apart from a parking space for more than 300 cars.
Ananth G. Pai from Bharath Beedi Works says the idea is to provide a new shopping-cum-entertainment experience to the citizens. "Basically it works as a one-stop shop for the family," he says. The land for the project has been provided by Bharath Beedis.
Balakrishna Shetty of Adlabs told The Times of India his brother Manmohan Shetty, chairman and MD, Adlabs, started the trend three years ago with the country’s first multiplex at Vadala, Mumbai.
Later Adlabs started multiplexes at Andheri and at Mulund, both with five screens. Shetty observes the theatres will also have the facility to screen a single movie, if it’s a blockbuster, in all the three theatres at 10 minute intervals using the loop system.
The objective behind multiplexes was to provide entertainment to a shopper, if he suddenly gets an urge to see a movie. Likewise for a filmgoer, it provides an opportunity for quick shopping. Or for a family, a visit to the multiplex can provide shopping, dining and entertainment experience at a single venue.
